I'd be happy to know some of your thoughts about this subject :Dġ - no urgency in the main quest line. Guards especially bother me, as they're probably the people supposed the most to know the towns and their layouts, but all do in Skyrim is whine.

While Morrowind lacked quest markers and such, it was sometimes actually less cryptic than Skyrim, as you could get some helpful information from them. Guards and less important NPCs being helpful: It bothered me in Skyrim how NPCs who don't play an important role in any quest or the hold guards only have casual misc lines, with no option to ask for directions and stuff. Morrowind especially nails it as a plenty of questlines contradict each other (Fighters Guild with the Thieves Guild, as well as the Great Houses with each other), making the choices and the roleplaying factor more significant.

Skyrim eventually makes Dragonborn an overpowered Gary Stu/Mary Sue who ends up being a pro everywhere. It's not like "find a spinning ball, go to some dungeons, kill an evil Thalmor guy, you're an arch-mage now" all while knowing only three spells. To advance in the Mages Guild, you need to have high enough magic-related skills. Morrowind avoids the jack-of-all-trades thing. Guild requirements: Kind of an extension of the previous point. Every quest that lands in your log must be preceded with choosing a right dialogue option. Morrowind doesn't have it on the other hand. And I don't give a Johnson about that Aretino kid).

Unless you install mods to prevent it, it's extremely hard to play as a "good guy" and keep your log clean, as "evil" quests are especially dumped onto you (stop bothering me, Brynjolf.
